The Australian Shepherd is a highly intelligent and energetic herding breed despite its name. The breed was developed in the United States, where ranchers and shepherds refined these dogs for herding livestock. Australian Shepherds became especially popular on ranches and farms due to their versatility, work ethic, and ability to handle large herds of sheep and cattle.

Appearance:

Australian Shepherds are medium-sized dogs with a strong, athletic build and a beautiful double coat. They are known for their striking eyes, which may be blue, brown, amber, or even two different colors.

Their thick double coat requires brushing several times a week to reduce shedding and prevent matting. During seasonal shedding periods, more frequent brushing may be necessary.
